The area closed championships were held at Pontefract squash club last weekend and many of our juniors travelled down to compete against the best from Yorkshire & Durham and Cleveland.
The biggest success for Northumbria came in the girls U13 where Rachel Oswald from Jesmond beat Westoe’s Alex Gutteridge in the final, well done to both.
There were 5 competitors in the girls U17 ,taking between them places 3rd down to 7th those players were Sarah Oswald, Kimberley Hay,Sara Potter, Ashley Hay and Rebecca Brown.
The sole representative in the girls U15 was Anna Oswald she lived up to her seeding finishing in 3rd place .
Only 3 of the counties oys travelled and all played in the U15, the best placed was Alex Storey reaching the quarter finals and losing to the eventual winner Jmes Earles! both Christian Beck and Richard Shellam were in the plate having to pley one another in the semi’s, Christian came through in 5 games but unfortunately lost in the final.
