Northumbria U19 Boys County weekend 10th Oct
Final league position – 2nd out of 3 teams
vs. Cumbria – Won 4-1
Harry Carr made a successful debut for the U-19’s with a comfortable 3-0 win vs. the Cumbria No. 5. Chris Clinton followed suit with a 3-0 victory at No.4, but Alex Storey did not play well at No.3 and lost 3-0. It was then left to Daniel Ward at No.2 and Richard Shellam at No. 1 to complete the match win for Northumbria – and both won comfortably 3-0
vs. Lancashire – Lost 5-0
This was a very different to the Cumbria match as the standard of the Lancs. players were significantly higher.
Harry again played well at No. 5, losing 3-0, but gaining valuable experience. Chris had great game vs. the Lancs. No.4, having 5 game balls in the 2nd game before finally winning it 11/5 to make it 1-1. He also had chances in the following 2 games but went down fighting 3-1. Alex played better against his Lancs. opponent than he did vs. Cumbria, but was still not at his best and again lost 3-0. Daniel played well at No.2 versus one of the Hibbard twins who eventually proved too accurate – Dan losing 3-0. Richard also put up a great performance at No. 1 against the other Hibbard twin – winning taking the 2nd game 11/6 but losing 3-1 to his very quick and accurate opponent.
Encouraging performances from our lads here, – Lancs. were a strong side right through and set a good target for our boys to match.
Congratulations go to all the boys – they played well, fought hard, and were a credit to Northumbria squash.
Thanks also to Richard Vitty for handling all of the arrangements for the day, and to Dawn for helping out on the day when I skived off for a couple of hours. – Glenn Ward, 12th October 2008
