Northumbrians at Nationals 2009

NORTHUMBRIA PLAYERS PUT UP A GREAT SHOW IN MANCHESTER.

The national championships again took place in Manchester from 8th-15th of February. Northumbria players put up good show.

CAROL PAGE- LADIES 045 RUNNER-UP.

Carol has recently moved into the area and represented the county for the first time this season. She lost in the final to number 2 seed Mandy Akin from Kent.

JOHN EVANS- MENS O50 SEMI-FINALIST.

John made his come back after a few years out with a back injury 2 years ago and has proved his quality by reaching the semi final of this years nationals where he narrowly lost to eventual winner Ian Bradburn from Lancashire.

JOHN SMITH – MENS O60 SEMI-FINALIST.

As many people know John often makes it to the later stages of these events and this year he beat 3/4 seed Martin Pearse on the way to the semis where he lost 3-1 to number 2 seed Howard Cherlin.

STEVE CALVERT – MENS O45 LAST 16.

Steve kept to his 9/16 seeding but was unlucky not to advance further as he pushed 5/8 seed Richard Millman all the way before losing 3-2.

DAVE BARNETT – QUALIFIED FOR MAIN DRAW OF MENS.

Dave had to play in qualifying he won 3 matches finally beating seeded qualifier Tom Pashley to make it into the main draw. He then met number 5 seed Alister Walker and lost 3-0.

KIMBERLEY HAY – 2ND ROUND OF QUALIFYING

Kim won her first round of qualifiers against Carrie Ramsey before meeting top seeded qualifier Victoria Lust when she she lost 3-0.
