Northumbrians at Sheffield Junior Open

Over the weekend 7th/8th of November several of our counties juniors travelled to Abbeydale squash club in Sheffield to compete in an England squash Bronze level event.

CHRIS WIGGINS – having won his first round match to get into the quarter-final of the boys u13’s Chris then lost to number 1 seed Joe Dale, he then finished up in 6th place.

LAURA NEILL – Laura also finished in 6th place in the girls u13 event, she lost in her first round then won one and lost one on her way to 6th.

SIMON GRAHAM – in the biggest draw of the event Simon beatthe number 6 seed Oliver Turner in the second round to make it to the quarter-final, he didn’t stop there he then beat higher seeded Ed Stallworthy and finished a very good 6th place.

ALEX ROBERTSON – in the u13’s he won his first round to make it through to the quarter-finals where he lost. He unfortunately had to withdraw after injuring his claf, therefore finishing 8th.

COLE WINDSCHEFFEL- in the boys u17’s Cole lost his first match but then won 2 from 3 matches to end up in 11th place.

DAN WAREING- also in the big u15 draw Dan won his first round then lost in the last 16, from then he won 2 and lost 1 and finished in 13th position.

JOE WAREING- after losing to eventual champion Ben Merchantin the first round Joe then won his next 2 matches to win the Plate event.

BARNEY WAREING – after losing a close 3-1 in his first match Barney then has 2 epic 3-2 matches winning the first after being match point behind and losing the second after almost making a comeback from 2-0 behind. Finishing 18th overall.
