An evening of fabulous squash was provided by 2 world class players notably Saurav Ghosal world ranked number 29 and James Willstrop world ranked number 4.
A crowd of over a 100 people including some 20 juniors were entertained with a stunning display of shot making, incredible recovery shots and magical racquet skills the like of which has not been seen in the North East for many years. Prior to the match, James and Saurav spent an hour playing and coaching the Northumberland Club high performance juniors aged from 8 to 16 years old. One of the youngest players Joe Wareing caught the attention of James who commented he had excellent court movement and racquet ability for his age.
The evening was organised through Prince Racquets who sponsor both Players and Ian Wood Sports who operates the best racquets shop in the North East from the Club.
The match was won by James by 3 games to 1 with the score line 11-6,11-5,9-11, 11-9. As luck would have it, both players will meet again in the 1ST round of the Canary Wharf Classic in London on Monday 22nd March.
Overall, a great night at the club with the players socialising afterwards in the bar area and enjoying a well earned curry.
