Two of the counties girls teams progressed to the inter-county finals weekends having qualified in the top 2 northern counties to compete against the best of the south.
The U17 team traveled to Lilleshaw over the weekend of 27th/28th of March, the team was Sam Ward, Lucy Beecroft, Maria Bainbridge, Jayne Oswald and Emma Haley. They first came up against the top county from the south, Surrey. Sam ,Lucy and Emma won their matches beating Surrey 3-2 overall and progressing to the final against Yorkshire. Yorkshire had beaten the Northumbrian team during qualifying and unfortunately the result was to repeat itself with Yorkshire winning 4 matches to 1, Lucy Beecroft with Northumbrias only win. Overall finishing as the 2nd best county in the country with a very young team.
As mentioned before the U17 team was young and it was most of that team that had competed at the U15 finals weekend on 20th/21st of March. The team made a very long journey to play in Guilford in Surrey, the team was Lucy Beecroft, Maria Bainbridge, Jayne Oswald, Emma Haley and Charlotte Cooper.
The draw wasn’t kind at the semi-final stage as Northumbria who had qualified top of the Northern counties had the play Warwickshire the best of the south. It was always going to be a tight match and it proved to be but it was Warwickshire who progressed to the final winning 4-1 with only Emma Haley winning her match. On the Sunday they played a 3rd/4th playoff and finished in a credible 3rd place over all.
