The end of season Northumbria Cup took place at Tynemouth squash club on 21st-22nd of May. It was the 2nd time the Cup has been held after a popular first year last season.
The semi-finals took place on the Friday night with the top 4 of the mens and ladies leagues playing off for a place in the final on the Saturday.
The Northumberland Club were champions in both division and they duly qualified for the finals, the Mens team beat Alnwick 5-0 and the Ladies beat Chester-le-street.
The other semi-finals were between Northern and Westoe in the mens and Tynemouth and Northern in the Ladies. Westoe scored an upset beating 2nd place Northern to qualify for the final and Tynemouth beat Northern to book a place against Northumberland ladies.
The final was on the Saturday ahead of the end of season presentation night. The ladies was completed first with the Northumberland club securing the double for the second season running beating Tynemouth.
Westoe backed up their upset in the semis with a 3-2 win over the league champions Northumberland to win the Cup. The match came down to a last game decider between Paul Lord and Dave Barnett, at 9-9 in the 5th it was anybodys cup but Lord won the next 2 points to win a hard earned match and Cup for Westoe Squash Club.
