Regional Closed Report

Todd and Beecroft take regional titles.

The Regional Junior Squash Championships took place over the weekend 11th/12th September in Yorkshire. Split between Pontefract and Chapel Allerton clubs the event is for players from Yorkshire, Durham and Cleveland and Northumbria and many of our county juniors made the journey.

Lucy Beecroft was the first big success of the weekend beating Yorkshires number 1 seed Millie Pugh in the girls under 17 event to take the title at Chapel Allerton.

All of the girls events were played on the 11th , Caitlin Vitty was runner-up in the under 15 event and Laura Neill finished 3rd in the under 11 event in which Aanya Hamilton and Erin Vitty also competed . Also Georgia Webster and Tegan Younger played in the under 13 event.

The Boys events were played in Pontefract over the two days,  Jamie Todd was hugely impressive winning the boys under 13 event not dropping a game and beating Durhams Oliver Walls convincingly in the final.

The other highlight was in the boys under 11 event, 3 of our players all unseeded made it into the quarter-final, Joe Wareing, Lewis Follin and Angus Forster. Wareing didn’t stop there after having beaten number two seed Lewis Southward he then beat 3/4 seed David Collins in the semi-final. In the final Wareing met his match losing to number one seed from Yorkshire Ben Merchant. Also competing in the under 11 was Harry Little.

In the boys under 15 event Elliott Carr beat 3/4 seed Joe Dale to reach the semi-final where he lost to Yorkshires Jack Bearpark.

Two of our other juniors made it to the plate final, Dan Wareing won the under 15 boys and Richard Ridgway lost out in the under 17 event.

Other players who competed. Boys u19 – Cole Windscheffel, Harry Carr. Boys u17- Simon Graham and Martyn Hope Boys u15 – Chris Wiggins, Lewis Wake and Cai Younger, Boys u13 – Michael Mattimore, Cameron Hamilton, Robert May and William Dowson.

  1. Brilliant summary, this is great for all the kids that competed to show their school, friends and family what they achieved.

    Well done to all who competed, the quality of squash coming from our juniors is a real credit to all involved in supporting them and their own individual efforts
