Northumberland Junior Squash Open 23/24 April
@ The Northumberland Club
A glorious sunny weekend for the squash competition sponsored by Woodsports was a major success for Northumbria players who won the majority of the age group titles.
The Boys u11 title was won by Max Forster who just overcame Matthew Carr 3-2 in a very close encounter and both players will have further battles no doubt in years to come. Michael Mattimore won the u13 title beating Oliver Walls from Durham & Cleveland 3-0 and he impressed throughout the weekend matches. The Boys u15 final was a titanic match between Toby Pratt (Yorks) and Jamie Todd, the first 2 games were won by Toby but then Jamie fought back to level at 2-2 but after many energy draining rallies in the 5th Toby pushed ahead to take the title. The Boys u17 title was won impressively by Elliott Park who had to overcome the top 3 seeds to lift the trophy. The final against Rahul Bansal (Lancs) was played in front of a packed crowd who enjoyed the high standard of squash from both players.
The combined Girls u11/13 title was won by Laura Neill who overcame Georgia Webster to add another title to her collection. In the combined Girls u15/17 event, Charlotte Cooper took the honours beating Charlotte Fish ( Yorks) 3-0 in the final.
