The Regional championships took place over the weekend 10th/11th September in Yorkshire. The Girls event was at Chapel Allerton in Leeds and the Boys at Pontefract. The event is for players from Northumbria, Durham & Cleveland and Yorkshire.
It was at Chapel A where Northumbria were dominating in the girls events. Of the 5 girls events from u11 to u19 Northumbria took 4 and only lost narrowly in the fifth.
The success started with Erin Vitty in the under 11 event, she beat fellow Northumbrian Aanya Hamilton to take the title.
The u13 final was between Laura Neill and Ellen Cooper (Yorkshire) who have had a great rivalry over the last couple of years, Neill was this time on very good form and won the title with a 3-1 win.
The u15 event was where the near miss occurred with Charlotte Cooper fighting back from 2-0 down only to eventually lose out 3-2 to Yorkshire’s Megan Kaye.
In the u17 the winning continued with a comfortabel victory for Lucy Beecroft who won her round robin event without dropping a game.
Sam Ward completed Northumbria’s Golden day with a convincing 3-0 win over Emily Peach to take the u19 event.
The Boys despite having no winners at Pontefract did perform well. Michael Mattimore was narrowly edged out in his u13 final losing 12-10 in the fifth to Yorkshire’s Yusef Forster.
Max Forster (u11) and Jamie Todd (u15) both finiashed in a credible 3rd place.
The Yorkshire players are still dominating the Boys events but Northumbria are in control on the girls side.
