North of England Junior Squash Championships

The North of England Junior Squash Championships sponsored by Mantis & Woodsports were held at the Northumberland Club, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne over the weekend of the 10\11^th November and attracted 91 entries for the Boys\Girls Under 11,13,15,17 and 19 titles.

There proved to be some fantastic matches throughout the weekend not least the semi final clash in the Boys u13 category between Max Forster (1 seed) and Matthew Carr (3/4 seed). It looked all over when Max won the 3^rd quite easily but Matthew fought back strongly in the 4^th to take it 16-14 to make it 2 games all. Max then dominated the 5^th game and went on to win the title at only 10 years old.

Another notable match was the Under 17 final clash between Dan Wareing and Chris Wiggins. Both players put on a great show for the watching crowd with some amazing rallies and outstanding retrieving, defence and attacking play. After 60 minutes and in the final 5th game, it came down to who would make the least mistakes and take their chances when presented with a weak shot to attack. On this occasion Dan proved the stronger and took the match 3-11,11-4,12-10,5-11,11-8.
