The 3rd Eldon Leisure Squash Club Championship was held between 12 – 14 April. There were over 40 entries this year and over 100 matches played over the weekend. Apart from the Main event (graded), the Ladies and the Juniors event; a Doubles event was also introduced this year and have attracted a good number of participants.
It wasn’t the best pick of day with the final day of the ELS Club Championship being held on the same day as theNorth-East Derbybetween NFC and SFC. As expected, the ELS Club Championship was a far more important event and had attracted a good level of crowd supporting their favourite players!
The final results are:
A Event: The No. 2 Seed Eric Mok took the Club Champion title in a thrilling 3-2 against the new joiner TieZheng Yuan. The match could have gone either way. Eric in many occasion during the match tried to persuade the referee that the final should be played to the best of one game!
Ladies: 2nd Seed Jen Lumley took the title with a 3-1 win over The No. 1 Seed Fiona Macfarlane. In an interview afterwards, Fiona accepted defeat graciously and admitted the best lady won. She finished the interview with the statement: “I’ll be back!”
Doubles: The newly crown club champion Eric Mok and the former Ladies Club Champion Fiona MacFarland couldn’t stop the Dream Team Cameron Brown and Martin Bone who took the match (best of one game) 11-8.
Ladies Plate: Clare Woroniuk took the Ladies Plate winner title with Katherine Hunt being the runner-up
B Event: Winner – Cameron Brown, Runner-up – Henry Deraugh
C Event: Winner -MiloMckenzie, Runner-up – Istvan Soos
D Event: Winner – Imran Haq, Runner-up – Nigel Miller
E Event: Winner – Kyle Black, Runner-up – Andrew Webber
F Event: Winner – Clare Woroniuk, Runner-up – Shanru Yang
Juniors Events:
U9 Winner: Daniel Castro, Runner-up: Heather Miller
U13 Winner: Ryan Jefferson, Runner-up: Alastair Miller
