[/dropcap]NORTHUMBRIAN Charlotte Cooper won her second successive tournament at the Allam Humber Junior Open in June.

Following on from her recent success at Norton, Cooper saw off strong competition in an event small on quantity but big in quality in the Girls Under 17s.
First up was a solid 3-0 win over Yorkshire U17 No 2 Charlotte Fish.
That set up what was effectively a final against Yorkshire No 1 Megan Kaye. This was a real contrast of styles between the hard-hitting, athletic Northumbrian and the languid, shot-making style of the home favourite.
And what a match in turned out to be – Cooper going down 4-11 in the first before clinching a titanic second 15-13. The third went Kaye’s way 11-7, and the Yorkshire girl came so near to closing out the match in the fourth.
But Jesmond’s Cooper would not give up and fought back to take it 13-11, and finished like a steam train in the fifth (11-3) to make it two tournament wins in a row.
