FIVE Northumbria juniors tasted glory at the North East Coastal Challenge in March – including double success at U17 level for Jamie Todd and Georgia Webster.
Other tournament winners on a sunny Spring-like weekend in Redcar were Harry Little and Lowri Waugh at U13 level, and Northern’s Katie Barker (Girls U11).
Todd was on top form in seeing off Norton’s fast-improving shotmaker Ollie Walls in the Boys U17 final.
And what a day Webster, of the Northumberland Club, had. First she beat Northern’s in-form Josie Barker 3-1 then she twice came from 2-0 down – against Tynemouth’s Laura Neill in the semi-final; then against Northern’s Tegan Younger in the final. Webster battled back to 2-2 against Younger before clinching a superb match 11-1 in the fifth.
Jesmond’s Lowri Waugh was a touch too strong for Northern’s Lucy Anderson in the Girls U13 competition, while Little edged out Northern’s Andrew Shipley in an excellent Boys U13 final.
Northern duo Katie Barker and Naomi Appleby came first and second respectively in the Girls U11 event, while Harry Morris (Northumberland Club) finished runner-up in the Boys U11 event.
