SECOND HALF SEASON 2011/12

Played on March 10th/11th.

Venue – Fairways Lodge, Lancashire.

A top 2 finish would keep team in division One, relegation if not!!

Team – DAVE BARNETT, JON TATE, LIAM GUTCHER, MATT SAMPSON, JON EVANS and CHRIS CLINTON.

First match was against hosts Lancashire. The first 2 strings were shared with a win for Evans and a loss for Gutcher. The win was then sealed with Barnett and Sampson getting wins at 1 and 4 leaving Tate to battle hard only to lose out 13-11 in the fifth to finish with a 3-2 win.

Saturday afternoon was a match against Merseyside, Chris Clinton came in for Evans at 5 and won convincingly 3-0 and with Barnett winning 3-1 on the other court it was a strong start. Sampson lost 3-1 at number 4 but Gutcher clinched the win with a nail-biting 3-2 win against Mike Beecham which left Tate to consolidate with another 3-2 battle this time winning, 4-1 win in the end.

After the 2 Saturday wins it left the team not having to win on Sunday as Division One place was already assured but the team didn’t take it easy and won the match against Merseyside 5-0 to top the group in style.

FIRST HALF SEASON 2011/12

Played on November 10th/11th.

Venue – Yarm squash Club , Durham and Cleveland.

This Division one group of 4 teams will decide who goes through to promotion group (top 2) and who goes to relegation group (bottom 2).

Team – DAVE BARNETT, PAUL LORD, LIAM GUTCHER, RICHARD SHELLAN, JON EVANS and MATT HARDY.

First match was against a very strong YORKSHIRE team. With only Richard Shellam getting close with a 3-2 loss at number 4 it was a 5-0 loss to get started.

Next match was against LANCASHIRE. It was in the end to be a narrow 3-2 win with Barnett, Lord and Evans getting the wins but Shellam was very unlucky getting injured when in control and was unable to run by the end and Gutcher led 2-0 but was unable to take the victory.

Day 2 was to be the decider to see who went on for a chance of promotion. It was against local rivals Durham, the last 2 seasons had seen a win each between the local counties. Matt Hardy came in to replace the injured Shellam and was unable to get a win against Andrew Parnaby and Gutcher also lost at 3 to Josh Harris. Despite Barnett getting a win at number 1 when Evans lost to Andy Cross at 4 it was to be Durham who advanced 3-2 after Lord got a win at number 2.
