Mens O60 Inter-County Championship Stage 2 – Promotion Group
Teams involved were:
Northampton (hosts @ Daventry Rugby & Squash Club)
Oxfordshire
Durham & Cleveland
Northumbria
Our squad was: Derek Collins (Northern), Alan Coates (Walker) and Steve Atkinson (Northumberland)
1st game against Durham & Cleveland:
Steve was first to play, his first County game for 5 years.
1st 2 games could have gone either way Steve winning them both before running out easy in the 3rd.
Alan having no problem with his opponent winning in 3
Derek had the hardest game winning in 5 after been 2-1 down. Came back to win 3-2
Second game against Northants:
Alan 2nd opponent was ready for a long battle after Alan took the 1st 2 games, winning the next 2 to set up a very tight 5th game with Alan loosing 3-2
Steve also had a battle on his hands coming back from 2-1 down to win 3-2
This set up a great game for Derek
Like Alan he went into a 2-0 lead before his opponent came back strong beating Derek 3-2
Sunday’s game against Oxfordshire:
Derek suffering from a tight calf muscle came up against a very strong player losing 3-1
Steve finished off a good weekend unbeaten winning 3-1
The final game was again an up & down game with Alan going 2-0 down before digging in to win 3-2. The last game his opponent deciding not to carry on with a leg injury.

Only 1 team promoted so hard lines to the O60’s team a good first effort and better luck next time.
