We are very proud of all our junior players who played in the British Junior Championships 2022 this past weekend!
A group of 14 players from our county travelled to Sheffield to compete against the best juniors in Britain across various age groups!
Our 6-player girls’ team had a strong showing across 3 categories, picking up some excellent wins and gaining vital experience against high-level opponents!
GU15
Ava and Kate Naisbitt of Northern both won 2 matches in the Girls U15 event to finish 15th and 19th, respectively, in a very strong category!
GU17
We had 3 contenders in the Girls U17 category, with Mia Smith (Tynemouth) being our best-placed finisher at 21st. Shae Paterson (Northern) placed 23rd and Zoe Shipsey (Northern) finished in 27th place. A great effort from all 3!
GU19
Our sole entry in the Girls U19 category was Hexham’s Annabelle Satow, who had several excellent performances throughout the event winning 2 matches to place 12th overall!
The 8 players in our boys’ team also put on a great showing of our county’s junior talent and enthusiasm!
BU11
William Brocklehurst (Northern) had an amazing tournament, winning 3 of his 5 matches to exceed his 13/16 seeding and finish 10th overall! While Magnus McKay battled his way to 19th place!
BU13
In the under-13s event Mateo Radley (Hexham), James Southern (Tynemouth) and Joseph Brocklehurst (Northern) were all unseeded in a very competitive 64-player draw. They all did themselves proud, finishing 32nd, 43rd and 46th respectively!
BU15
The Boys U15’s was another 64 draw full of junior talent. Northern’s Aidan Mahoney was our top performer placing 24th, just 1 place above fellow-Northern teammate Duncan Rutherford, both surpassing their initial seedings! Sam Tufton, another of Northern’s junior talents, took 3 wins from 6 and finished 43rd overall!
Another big congratulations to all of our juniors for their excellent performances and a thank you to their parents and everyone who supported the players throughout the 4-day event!
