Northumbria at the British Junior Open 2023

A handful of players from our county travelled to Birmingham to take part in the British Junior Open 2023. The tournament is one of the premier junior events of the year with players, including some that are world ranked, coming from across the world to participate!

BU11
Magnus McKay finished 32nd in the Boys Under 11 event, despite being unseeded in the draw.

BU15
We had two representatives in the Boys Under 15 draw, both from Northern. In a category with around 100 entrants, Aidan Mahoney (pictured) finished in an excellent 63rd and Leo Blackett wasn’t far behind in 90th/91st!

GU15
Ava and Kate Naisbitt (Northern) both played in a similarly large Girls Under 15 category where they faced each other in the 4th round! Ava narrowly came through the family rivalry with a 3-2 win and finished in 42nd, with Kate coming in just 3 places lower at 45th.

GU17
In her first tournament at the U17 level, Zoe Shipsey (also of Northern!) finished in an admirable 59th/60th place in a very strong event.

Well done to everyone, a great experience playing and learning from some of the best juniors in the world!
