British National Masters 2023

The British National Masters Championship was held last week (8th – 12th Feb) at Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham. The tournament saw the best masters players from across England, Scotland & Wales compete to be crowned British National champion in men’s & women’s categories from over 35s up to the over 80s!

Men’s O60s
Fresh from winning the O60s category in the South of England Masters event in December Bryan Beeson (The Northumberland Club) carried on his fine form in this tournament. Bryan, the no.2 seed, sliced through the draw with relative ease to take the title, losing only a single game in 4 matches! Congratulations Bryan, the new Men’s O60s British National Champion!

Men’s O70s
Tony Pensom of Consett had a similarly impressive tournament. After losing 11/9 in the 5th to the no.2 seed in the main event, Tony dropped into the plate event. In the plate, Tony won his 1st match 3-0 to progress to the final where he prevailed in a very competitive 3-1 to take home the Men’s O70s Plate event title!

Men’s O55s
Steve Calvert upset the seeding in the O55s by beating the 5/8 seed to progress to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, Steve’s run ended there losing 3-0 to serial masters winner Yawar Abbas.

Men’s O35s
In the O35s event Jamie Douglas, who represents the county despite living out of the area, also had a good tournament. He lost 3-1 in the semi-final to the no.1 seed and eventual event winner.

Women’s O35s
Amanda King (The Northumberland Club) had an excellent debut in the Women’s O35s, this included a 3-2 win vs a 3/4 seed to help Amanda overcome her seeding to finish 4th overall!

Great results from all of our players!
