The English Junior Championships, held in Surrey from 17th – 19th Feb, is one of the biggest tournaments on the English Junior circuit, attracting more than 300 of the finest juniors across 11 age categories from the mixed under 9s through to the girls and boys under 19s!
A small group of players from our county travelled to the event and here’s how they got on:
William Brocklehurst of Northern had an excellent tournament, he lost in a competitive QF to no.1 seed and event winner Finley Brown before finishing 6th overall!
William’s brother Joseph competed in a very tough U13s category and won his final match 3-1 to place 31st overall.
Rebecca Little lost in round 1 to 9/12 seed Aditi Rao, but won her remaining 3 matches, dropping just 1 game in the process, to take a great 17th place!
We had 2 representatives in this age group, Sam Tufton and Aidan Mahoney (both from Northern). Both Sam and Aidan had strong performances in this very competitive category coming in 21st and 25th respectively.
