
Jade Pitcarin & Emma Turnbull from Newcastle University recently represented the Cayman Islands at the Senior Caribbean Squash Championships. The championships saw 8 Caribbean nations face off in a number of events including; men’s and women’s singles, men’s, women’s and mixed doubles as well as several team categories.
In the women’s individual event, Emma and Jade both reached the round of 16 with Emma losing 3-0 to the event winner Margot Prow (Barbados), while Jade was defeated 3-1 by Larissa Wiltshire (Guyana).
Jade reached the final in the women’s doubles with partner Marlene West, but they had to settle for 2nd place after losing 11-9 in the deciding game vs the top seeds from Guyana.
In the women’s team category, Jade was no.1 and Emma no.3. The team won 3 of their 5 matches, beating Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and Trinidad & Tobago to finish 3rd in the event.
Overall, Jade and Emma contributed to an excellent event for the Cayman Islands which saw them placed 2nd overall at the championships.
