England Squash Masters hosted the North of England Regional Event at Pontefract from 3rd – 5th November, and a handful of players from our county made the journey to Yorkshire to compete.
Men’s O75
Mike Cherryman, Hexham, won his opening round 3-1 but lost in the QF to 3/4 seed Larry Grover who went on to win the event.
Men’s O70
Consett’s Tony Pensom won 3-0 in the 1st round of the over 70’s but narrowly lost 13-11 in the 4th of his QF match. His opponent went on to finish 2nd overall.
Men’s O65
Alan Coates, Eldon, lost to the 3/4 seed and event winner in round 1 and was beaten in a tightly contested 3-1 in the first round of the plate.
Men’s O60
Andrew Smith lost to the 3/4 seed in the opening round of the main event, then lost in another close 3-0 in the plate event.
Men’s O55
Tynemouth’s Richard Bradley dropped a 2-0 lead in his opening match to fall 3-2 to the 5/8 seed, however, Richard came through to win the O55s plate event!
Men’s O35
Jamie Douglas progressed through the over 35’s main draw only to be beaten in the final 2 seed James Snell!
