U11 Northern Cup
This annual event held down in Manchester allows u11 players to get a taste of representing the county before the u13 age group when Inter-county squash starts.
This season event was held at Alderley Edge Squash club in cheshire and organised by Cheshire squash volunteers.
Luckily the county currently has many capable young players at the u11 age group so we were able to send down 8 players to compete in Northumbria ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams,
Players- JOE WAREING, ANGUS FORSTER, LAURA NEILL, LEWIS FOLLIN, MATTHEW CARR, MATTHEW WALSH, MAX FORSTER and MICHAEL HOME.
The weekend consisted of firstly an individual Knockout event on the Saturday. It proved to be a very succesful start with Joe Wareing winning the event beating Yorkshires Lewis Southward 3-0 in the final. Angus Forster made it through to the semi-final where he lost to Southward.
The Saturday event proved great preparation for the team event on the Sunday. the teams were made up of 4 players and they were divided into 3 groups which were to be played in a round robin format. Both Northumbrias ‘A’ team and ‘B’ team won their groups and were then placed in a group of 3 alongside Yorkshire to decide the top 3 places.
Yorkshire were this time too strong but Northumbria placed 2nd and 3rd out of over 10 county teams.
