    Report from Elliott Park

Buoying with enthusiasm after a 8am wake up, the u17 team first played Cumbria. The team won with relative comfort, all winning 3-0 apart from the number 1 Elliott Park, who went 2-0 down before recovering to win 11-3 in the fifth.* noted “at least we don’t have to play Yorkshire again”.

Next was the ubiquitously strong Yorkshire, who cruised through to 3-0 victories at 1, 2 and 3, but meeting some resistance at 4 and 5, with Elliott Carr taking a game from Oliver Turner and Andrew Walsh beating Brad Gallivan 3-2.

Finally, to decide the 2nd/3rd placings, Northumbria faced Durham & Cleveland. By the end of the two matches, it was one tie each, with Stephen Twaddle loosing 11/6 in the fifth to James Harkin and Andrew Walsh coming back from 2-0 down to win 11-3 in the fifth against Tom Ramsey. Similarly, Elliott Park won 3-0 while Elliott Carr lost 3-1. In what has to be one of the most spectacularly hard found inter-counties matches ever, Simon Graham lost 14-12 in the 5th, after going 2-1 up against James Wass.

All in all a very eventful first weekend with a narrow miss on finishing 2nd, but, ever the optimist one team member
