    FIRST HALF SEASON 2011/2012

The team travelled to Carlisle on October 9th to play against CUMBRIA, YORKSHIRE and LANCASHIRE.

Team – SAM WARD, LUCY BEECROFT, MARIA BAINBRIDGE, JAYNE OSWALD and CHARLOTTE COOPER.

The team finished in second place behind Yorkshire, they will play the same 3 counties again in January with points from both rounds added to gether to decide who goes through to finals.

    Report from Glenn Ward.

Sam  - ill with cold and 2-0 down – managed to cough and splutter back to 2-2 but then exhausted and lost 5th   game 9 hankies to 6. Great effort.

Lucy was far too ‘Lucy’  for her opponent.  Played excellent. Or in squash terms –  ‘excellent’.  I should think so as well.

Maria found new legs for this weekend  - and they were too strong for Cumbria.  Played very well.

Jayne,  spurred on by great  non-squash player encouragement from mum….. “ your turn to hit it Jayne  ” ….was too good for her opponent

Charlotte made the recovery of the day – coming back from 2- 0 down to win 3-2 with some awesome backhand hitting. Forehand was good as well, but on the other side.

Great recovery  for Sam and a win vs England’s  U-19 No.2.   Failed drug test for LemSip.

Lucy too strong for the Yorkshire No.2 . Yes, we did  enjoy it.  Played well. Got to 9 in each game, and then stopped.

Maria played excellent  - fully fired up against  an opponent who ‘worked the marker well’ shall we say.  Ran out of venom in the 4th but fought well.

Jayne played well against a tricky volleyer.  Not even the parental cries of “ Oh go on, really thwack it” or “  spiffingly good volleydroplobthing” could help.

Charlotte  had a tough game against an experienced player, but never gave up until the very end –  when the game was over so it was just as well really.  Fought hard.

Sam continued her recovery and outcoughed Lauren in 4.  Good game to watch.

Lucy rounded off with another win to complete a great trio of wins without dropping a game. She did drop her hairclips a couple of times, but that’s all.

Maria put her new legs back on and had too much for this opponent. Volleyed well and probably has none left for the season now.

Jayne played really well and fought back from 2-1 down to win 3.-2.  Far too posh for her rather more common opponent.

Charlotte again came up against a tough opponent, but played really well.  Ran out of those cracking backhands midway thru the 3rd but kept it secret.

     INTER-COUNTY FINALS 2010/2011.

The finals were played at Lilleshall Sports Centre.

The team for the final was depleated due to a late withdrawel.

Team – SAM WARD, LUCY BEECROFT, JAYNE OSWALD and EMMA HALEY.

Despite starting one match down in the semi-final against Essex the 4 players came so very close to making it through to the final. Jayne Oswald scored a big upset victory beating Essex number 3 Hannah Jones 3-2 with the last game going to a tie break.

Emma Haley went down fighting at number 4 against Emma Page losing out 3-2. Sam Ward then scored a very close victory over higher ranked Sophie Lemon winning again in the 5th game. This left the deciding match between Lucy Beecroft and Anna Kimberley, Lucy started very well taking a 2-0 lead and it looked like an unlikey victory before the Essex girl fought back very impressively to take the last 3 games and the Match.

This left a 3/4 play-off against Gloucestershire. Partly due to being deflated about coming so close and partly through tiredness the team didn’t perform to the same level and lost 5-0 to a strong Gloucestershire team.
