British Junior Open 2024

The prestigious British Junior Open 2024 was hosted from 3rd – 7th Jan across 4 venues in Birmingham. With over 600 competitors across 10 categories, this is one of the biggest junior events on the calendar with the world’s best young players in attendance.

7 players, 5 boys and 2 girls, represented Northumbria at the tournament:

Huey Lamb (BU11) – Huey won 2 of his 5 games to place 61st in the Boys U11 event.

James Southern (BU13) – James lost in round 1 to the 5/8 seed from Pakistan, but won 2 of his remaining 4 matches to finish 39th overall.

William Brocklehurst (BU13) – William was beaten in his first 2 matches, after that he went on to win 2 out of 3 to end in 51st place.

Sam Tufton (BU15) – After losing 12-10 in the 5th of his qualifying match Sam won 4 matches in a row to place 65th.

Joesph Brocklehurst (BU15) – Joseph finished in 91st place after 4 losses in the U15’s event.

Shae Paterson (GU17) – Shae lost in the opening round to the Egyptian 5/8 seed Ruqayya Salem, then won 2 and lost 2 to finish 51st.

Annabelle Satow (GU19) – In the Girls’ U19 event Annabelle placed 48th after winning 1 of her 6 matches.

Great effort from all of our players, gaining valuable experience playing high-level opponents.
