There were 14 players representing Northumbria competing in the South Manchester Open, an England Squash silver-level tournament held from 26th – 28th January!
There were some outstanding results including 3 players finishing in the top 2.
Huey Lamb finished 5th in the boys U11’s category, winning 3 of his 4 matches with his only loss coming to the no.2 seed!
James Southern was the top seed in the BU13’s and claimed 1st place without dropping a game! William Brocklehurst wasn’t far behind placing 2nd, losing to James in the final after he beat the 2 seed 3-1 in the previous round.
Magnus McKay finished 15th after 2 wins, while Mateo Radley placed 23rd.
Lucy Ullyat finished 5th after winning a 5th-game tiebreaker in her final match and Emma Little was 7th overall.
Duncan Rutherford beat the top seed 3-0 in the boys U15’s final to be crowned champion!
Joseph Brocklehurst won his final game 3-1 to rank 15th overall, higher than his seeding of 17/20.
James Ulyatt also overcame his 21/24 seeding to finish 20th.
After winning 2 of her 4 group matches, Rebecca Little won her 5th/6th placement to beat her higher-seeded opponent and finish 5th.
As our sole BU17 representative, Sam Tufton won 2 of 4 matches, only losing to the 1 seed and 3/4 to finish 5th overall.
Ava and Kate Naisbitt finished 5th and 8th respectively. Ava won both her games after a 1st round loss to the 1 seed, including a 3-0 win over Kate, who narrowly lost out 3-2 in her last match.
