Sport Newcastle recently hosted their annual Awards Dinner, held at the city’s Civic Centre, to recognise elite, local success along with the stars of the future.
Bob Aynsley showed his true impact on Northern’s beginner programs as he lifted the prestigious Coaching Award, his 2nd award in recent times after he was awarded the England Squash Coach of the Year earlier in 2024.
Roger Tames, Sport Newcastle Chair, summarised Bob’s story saying “Bob’s backstory added another dimension to his unprecedented success in attracting a massive influx of adult beginners to our game” referring to how Bob went from stabbing victim to coach extraordinaire.
Duncan Rutherford also added to his impressive year of accolades as he was named one of ten Rising Stars, which celebrates talented young athletes at the early stage of their sporting careers. This sees Duncan follow in the footsteps of Max Forster and Josie Barker who also won the award in recent times.
