Our men’s squash team travelled to Carlisle last weekend to compete in the North group in Stage 1 of the Inter-County competition. The aim was to reach the promotion finals and regain their premier division status.
Team: Chris Wiggins, Cai Younger, Richard Parsons, Andrew Shipley & Dave Barnett
The 1st fixture saw the team take maximum points after beating Durham & Cleveland 5-0, with a few tight matches at 1 and 3.
The 2nd match of the day was against a strong Lancashire team and with the result in the balance at 2-2, Cai pulled off a 3-2 win after a 60-minute battle for 2 wins from 2.
Sunday saw the final fixture against Cumbria and with wins at 3, 4 and 5 the team secured the victory and 1st place in the group with an unbeaten record, ensuring they would advance to the promotion finals later in the year.
Dave Barnett so good they named him twice – see results below…
