Walking Squash Takes Over At Northern

Northern Squash have pioneered a new Walking Squash programme, partly funded by England Squash! The aim is to encourage those with physical restrictions, but still have the itch to get on court, to remain in squash.

The 3 initial sessions went down a storm with participants, and coach Bob Aynsley found there was interest from more than the original intended audience, saying:

“What we’ve discovered is that participants aren’t necessarily restricted in the way we first anticipated. We’re seeing people returning from injury, newcomers developing their ability, and experienced players who simply want a different approach to the game.”

The format, which emphasises tactical play and controlled movement over explosive athleticism, aligns perfectly with England Squash’s commitment to engaging players of all ages and abilities with the sport. By removing the high-intensity physical demands whilst maintaining competitive elements, Walking Squash is opening doors for a broader demographic.

The next session will be held at Northern on Sun 27th July from 6.20pm – 8.20pm, and is open to anyone to try for free!
