The Northumberland Club once again played host to the Cup Finals on Saturday 9th May, and remarkably Northern, who already held three of the five cups, were competing in every one of the cup finals.
LADIES’ LEAGUE CUP
Northern Ladies 2 3-2 Primrose Ladies
The Ladies’ League Cup final was a close-run match, but Lucy Ulyatt, Sophie Bedford and Freya Finnemore stepped up with important wins to give Northern Ladies 2 a 3-2 victory to beat their division 2 winning rivals Primrose Ladies, and defend their cup triumph from last season!
MEN’S LEAGUE CUP B
Northern Jrs 3-2 Newbiggin 2
Division 5’s Northern Jrs put on a great display throughout the cup, including in the final, where they beat division 4 champions Newbiggin 2 by 3 games to 2 to take the title!
It really couldn’t have been much closer, as a 15-14 win in the 5th game by junior Kiran Sarkar was the winning margin between the 2 teams!
MEN’S LEAGUE CUP A
Newbiggin 1 5-0 Northern 2
It was an almost faultless run to the League Cup A title for Newbiggin 1, who dropped just 2 games on their way to claiming the League Cup A title for the 1st time in the club’s history!
The final was a fairly one-sided affair, as a depleted Northern 2 squad was unable to overcome the division 1 runners-up as Newbiggin ran out 5-0 winners.
LADIES’ NORTHUMBRIA CUP
Newcastle Uni Ladies 1 4-1 Northern Ladies 1
It was a record-breaking win for Newcastle University Ladies’ 1 team, who knocked out league champions Tynemouth Ladies on their way to the final.
The University Ladies then proved too strong in the final for a 4-player Northern team, and powered to a 4-1 victory for a 4th win in a row, a feat no other team has achieved in the Ladies’ Northumbria Cup!
MEN’S NORTHUMBRIA CUP
Northern 1 4-1 Newcastle Uni 1
It was a rematch of the Premier division title fight in the Men’s Northumbria Cup, as champions Northern 1 took on 2nd-placed Newcastle Uni 1.
Much like in their league encounters, Northern ran out as the clear winners in the end, taking a 4-1 victory to complete the league double and defend their cup champions status!
