This year’s British Master Open was held alongside the prestigious PSA British Open in Birmingham, and a small contingent travelled to the event to represent our county.
MO35
In the Men’s O35 event, 3/4 seed Jamie Douglas advanced all the way to the final without dropping a game. However, Jamie had to settle for silver as he came up against Lewis Doughty, former WR #169, who took the title in a 3-0 win.
MO45
Former county finalist Jon Tate, now head coach at the University of Birmingham, stormed through the Men’s O45 draw, winning 4 matches on the bounce, including a 3-2 win in the final vs the top seed, to lift the MO45 title!
Meanwhile, Tynemouth’s Eric Mok lost in round 1, but recovered well to claim the runners-up spot in the plate event.
MO60
Matt Tellyn (Consett) dropped into the plate event after a 3-0 loss in the opening round, but after a mammoth effort in plate round 1, which saw Matt win after taking 3 12-10 tiebreakers, he had to withdraw from his following round.
