Another great day of MatchPoint action as 44 players battled through 76 matches at their first leisure centre event, hosted at the ever-welcoming Newbiggin!
The A Event was stacked with talent, but it was the top 2 seeds, Joe Broadley and Dave Barnett who progressed through to the final, in a match that was full of flair and attacking squash. The pair gave the crowd 2 closely fought games, but the Newbiggin no.1 had just enough in the business end of each to take the title to the delight of the home crowd.
Experience prevailed over youth in the B event final, as Peter Lonsdale beat William Brockelhurst to the title, and similarly in the C event which saw top seed Steve Chapman defeat Kiran Sarkar. The D event was a back-and-forth affair between 5/8 seed Dylan Younger and 4 seed Phil Riches, who had both toppled higher seeds to reach the final but Dylan clinched it 11-9 in the 3rd!
The full results were as follows:
A Event: [1] Joseph Broadley bt [2] Dave Barnett – 14-12 / 11-9
